Advise about a good child friendly metal detector.
28. Dec 2016 at 21:58

Hi All. I have been asked by a father of three children who all want to take up the metal detecting hobby. They are 14 years old and twins of 12 years of age. Can any one give advice as to the best machine to buy or can some one lend them a machine to see if they are really interested? I know the father quite well and any offers of help will be very appreciated.
Thank you, Sue

The Garrett detectors are really good and lightweight.
The most important thing to bear in mind is that if you "go cheap "
and buy one of those maplins or childrens discovery metal detectors , then you and your kids will be very disapointed (ie) 2" depth if you are lucky .  You will have to spend at least 130 (I think) to buy a garrett 150?
The garrett 250 is a bit more expensive. Most detectors that our club members have as "spare" will probably be too heavy for kids to use . If you are a parent who is serious about getting a metal detector for your children then you should think about a garrett?.
or maybe forget about it until they are a bit older.  Cry
